The Chicago Independent Venue League (CIVL) is a coalition of independently owned music and performance spaces working together to support Chicago\u2019s grassroots cultural ecosystem. Under the direction of pianist Adrian Ruiz, La Cantera<\/strong> is SRBCC\u2019s Afro-Caribbean Jazz performance ensemble\u00a0for young adults aged 19-24.<\/p>\n

Founded in 2018\u00a0at the Segundo Ruiz Belvis Cultural Center (SRBCC), the ensemble brings together talented musicians who have completed SRBCC\u2019s Afro-Caribbean Jazz and Afro-Latin Percussion apprenticeships. These young veterans collaborate with renowned Latin music artists, both local and touring.<\/p>\n

Participants engage in a dynamic performance schedule\u00a0designed to refine their musical abilities\u00a0while gaining industry exposure. Through mentorship and hands-on experience, they learn how to effectively leverage their talents\u00a0and build a sustainable career in music.”<\/p>\n

Established the third Friday of December 2023, La Cantera\u2019s Monthly Residency at The California Clipper is one of SRBCC\u2019s most notable investments in the development of emerging local artists.
